The wind and the sea makes the island a true paradise for lovers of water sports. Swimming, of course, can be your first target, but you can find out and try much more than this...

Diving

Descend to the sea beds of Sulcitan Islands is such an unforgettable experience: you can be in touching distance of amazing underwater marine wildlife (sea breams, barracudas, groupers, octopus, snappers, eagle ray, moray eels, crustaceans, nudibranchs, the largest mussel species in the world, the Pinna Nobilis).

The islands are surrounded by marine caves, walls, canyons, pinnacles, wrecks, and cliffs shearing into the sea, with extraordinarily blue clear water. You can dive here all year round, but the most pleasant months for diving are from April to October/November.

Diving centers hire the equipment and allow you to get by RIBs (rigid-hull inflatable boats) to the smaller islands of the archipelago: Corno, Vacca, Vitello, and the wonderful Toro, plenty of pelagic fish species, a great experience.

In San Pietro Island you can also try a new weird dive with tuna (known as the Maserati of the sea) in net pens, especially in May and June.

Kitesurf, Windsurf, Kiteboard

The Sulcis Iglesiente coasts are an extremely popular destination for sailing and its sport variants: Porto Botte, Sant'Antioco and Carloforte are the paradise of kite surfers, windsurfers and surfers. Kiteboarding is a surface water sports, mixing wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, paragliding into one extreme sport. A kiteboarder harnesses the power of the wind with a large power kite to be propelled across the water on a kiteboard similar to a wakeboard of a small surfboard; Kitesurfing is a style of kiteboarding specific to wave riding, using standard surfboards or boards shaped specifically for the purpose. KiteSardegna, in Porto Botte, offers lessons to beginners and advancers. Porto Botte is a wide bay, located on Golfo di Palmas coast, (south west Sardinia), just in front of Sant'Antioco Island, close to the villages of San Giovanni Suergiu and Giba. The sea bed is sandy, the best winds there are Mistral, South West and South east. Porto Botte, with a good 57% of profits days, is among the windiest spots in southern Sardinia. The windiest months are usually March, December and February, and in summer July and June. Kitesurfing in Porto Botte is easy for beginners, which can safely make practice and go back to the start point simply walking, but is good also for experts: they can enjoy the big spaces for their fun.
